Balinese Cooking Course

Immerse yourself in the local culture with a traditional Balinese cooking class and market tour experience.

During our morning together you’ll explore a local wet market, learn Balinese recipes and techniques, become familiar with an array of fresh herbs and spices found on the island, and enjoy good food and good conversation.

Our first stop is the fresh produce market here in Kubu, where you’ll explore alongside the locals, as they go about their daily shopping. Here you’ll see vibrant tropical fruit, a rich array of fresh vegetables, and fragrant herbs and spices, that will be used in the dishes you will be creating.

Our resident cook Maya, who has been with Siddhartha for more than ten years, will demonstrate and also assist you in preparing some traditional Balinese dishes while exploring the unique tastes and cooking techniques of this region.

You will prepare a selection of local favorites to create a delicious meal, from appetizers to desserts. Dishes will depend on what’s on offer at the market but may include:

  • Satay Lilit Ayam – A Balinese take on chicken satay, rich with coconut flavors
  • Lawar – A warm salad of market-fresh vegetables, coconut, and minced meat, seasoned with local herbs and spices
  • Pepes Ikan – A steamed fish filet fragrant with Balinese herbs, cooked and served in a banana leaf
  • Pisang Goreng – Sweet and crispy banana fritters

Afterward, you’ll sit down to enjoy the meal you’ve made.
